RICE'S LANDSCAPES REDEFINED
The monument of Edward D. Libbey, founder of Libbey Glass, Libbey Owens
Ford, and the Toledo Museum of Art, is located in the historical Woodlawn
Cemetery in Toledo. Jackie Ansara was commissioned by the Libbey Board of
Trustees to create a design that would pay homage to the man that earned
Toledo its moniker of the Glass City. The site was on a slight hill and was
overgrown and lacked any sort of cohesiveness. Inspired by a fountain at the
museum, a glass feature was created with glass pavers set in sand with a bronze
border. White annuals enhance rather than detract from the gleaming white
marble monument and the glass feature subtly reveals itself.
THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Garden renovation was needed after a steam line in an underground vault
began to leak and needed to be repaired. The eastern half of the garden
underwent an extensive renovation including the addition of an intricate
reclaimed paver walkway. Special attention was given to selecting
appropriate plants for this specific region. Informed decision making has led to
improved integrated pest management. This is the formal portion of the garden.
New plant material surrounds the existing stamped concrete. Dedicated team
members collaborated to ensure this renovations success.
