JACKIE ANSARA LANDSCAPE
The monument of Edward D. Libbey, founder of Libbey Glass, Libbey Owens
Ford, and the Toledo Museum of Art, is located in the historical Woodlawn
Cemetery in Toledo. Jackie Ansara was commissioned by the Libbey Board of
Trustees to create a design that would pay homage to the man that earned
Toledo its moniker of the Glass City. The site was on a slight hill and was
overgrown and lacked any sort of cohesiveness. Inspired by a fountain at the
museum, a glass feature was created with glass pavers set in sand with a bronze
border. White annuals enhance rather than detract from the gleaming white
marble monument and the glass feature subtly reveals itself.
THE PATTIE GROUP, INC.
Visitors are welcomed to the Stan Hywet PlayGarden by an arched pergola
that houses a pipe organ that plays music with a touch of the pergola post.
Motion sensors activate bubbles. An old car and bike reference the tire industry
that afforded the Sieberling family to build the estate. Locust trees provide
shade throughout the layered garden. Artificial grass tucked in plantings and
an allee of dogwoods let the entire family play a game of lawn bowling, a
favorite family sport of the Sieberlings. This miniature version of the tudor carriage
house is loaded with fun features including a climbing wall, rope bridge, twist
slide, talking animals and racing marbles.
